Errors from `spack-setup.sh` seem not to be propagated properly

I noticed that errors in spack_setup.sh seem to not be propagated properly. I would expect any mpsd-software install ... command to stop on an error. Instead, I had the impression that it just continues with the next toolchain installation.

Needs more investigation.
